Definition |
Viral infection (HSV-1 & HSV-2) manifesting usually with painful vesicled as clusters on an erythematous base; on skin, mucous membrane or cornea; may manifest with pneumonia, encephalitis or disseminated infection. |

Prognosis |
Good with treatment of primary or recurrences: but except recurrences. In the immuno compromised with HIV or malignancy, bone-marrow transplants, there could be wide dissemination with intravascular coagulation and high mortality. |

Treatment |
Crop of vesicles around the mouth, recurring after any fever, - HERPEX oint locally 5 tiems per day till vesicles dry up.
Tab HERPEX 200 mg tds x 5 days. (Acyclovir=7H-1)

General Measures |
Dermal lesions may be helped by application of cooling moist dressings and Burrow’s solution.Severe oral lesions might call for IV hydreation especially in children. |

Advice to Patient |
Avoid sexual contact while disease is active: Encourage use of condoms: Avoid exposure to different partners.Wash hands ofterAvoid contact with immuno-compromised. |

Follow Up |
Observe for disappearance of lesions and resolution of systemic manifestations. |

Inadequate Response |
Possibility of recurrence high, and treat for recurrence.Acyclovir resistant virus? |
